With the honey marketing crisis of the 1980s in the United States, and almost fifty percent of the crop in U.S. Government CCC warehouses, the U.S. beekeeping industry voted for the Honey Research, Promotion and Information Act. This established the National Honey Board. The act has been revoted on several times and the Board continues its work in promoting and researching generic honey. It established a hotline for research information and publishes a regular newsletter. Most recently, there has been discussion about modifying the legislation to divert some of the assessements to applied bee research.
